List of Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools in India

An initiative established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India the Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools was started by the Central Government in an effort to provide high quality and holistic education to the children of the country. Established in the year 1963, it came to popularly known as “Central Schools”. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools follow the CBSE syllabus and both curriculum and the syllabus is the same in all the schools around the country. The annual calendar too is similar, and the establishment of these schools has come as a boon to those parents who are Government employees and whose jobs are usually transferable. Having to relocate quite regularly, in fact every three years, the setting up of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools has helped the wards of these employees to continue with their education without hindrance. The system has proved very successful and as the years go by, the level of the quality of education provided by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools has improved over the years. The management of the schools all over the country is taken care of by the organization known as the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan which is headquartered in the capital city-New Delhi.

The Special Features Of The Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools

The main problem faced by most students in India is that they need to take up the three language formula in the state run government schools. Fortunately the Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools have not adopted the learning of the three languages formula and has made it compulsory for students to learn only two languages which are English and Hindi. Though the learning of Sanskrit is compulsory only in the Middle School that is from STDs VI to the VIII the students wanting to learn the language further can take it up as an optional language study in the Higher Secondary level.

In an attempt to keep up the standards to face the international requirements, German is also taught as a language in these schools. While maintaining the high level of excellence in the imparting of quality education, Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools have emerged as the premium institutions in the country and today they have established schools in other countries as well which include Nepal, Russia and Tehran and one in Bhutan which has now been handed over to the Bhutanese Government and is not known as a Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools any more.
